The Nazarbayev Intellectual School of Chemistry and Biology in Aktau joined the ranks of the Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools on August 27, 2015. The school can accommodate 720 students and is located in district 33 of the city.
The Nazarbayev Intellectual School will contribute to the development of the intellectual potential of the students, providing them with the knowledge and developmental skills that will form the basis of formation of highly educated, polylingual, competitive, physically- and spiritually-developed citizens, striving for self-development and self-realization.
The intellectual school in the Mangystau region employs more than 80 teachers who underwent a careful, thorough and competitive selection process. The ten international English-speaking teachers are from Australia, South Africa, Hungary, the United Kingdom, Colombia and the United States, and they are ready to share their knowledge, expertise and experience.
Currently, 477 students receive educational grants from the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan “Orken”, and they are placed in grades 7, 8, 9, 10 and 12. The selection process was intense, and only 1 out of every 6 applicants were successful.
The school building houses 54 classrooms and 24 laboratories equipped with the latest facilities. The school has subject-specific classrooms for chemistry and biology, physics and mathematics, technical modeling, nano and biotechnology laboratories and robotics and information facilities. Despite the fact that the major subjects at school are chemistry and biology, great attention will be paid to the study of mathematics, physics and the humanities.
Within the school building is a greenhouse which houses more than 150 species of plants. Biology lectures and presentations are often held here. Because the greenhouse has an area of 300 square meters, and it will serve as a meeting room and a relaxation area for children in the future.
The school television studio is designed to develop the students’ creative and scientific abilities. The school is hi-tech and equipped with the latest computer systems, multimedia rooms, modern computers, interactive electronic boards, high-speed internet, innovative software, and all these will not only help students to acquire knowledge, but will also allow teachers to effectively manage the learning process.
The school library consists of three rooms currently housing 7000 books. In the future, it is planned to increase the library collection up to 20000 titles. In addition to school books in the Kazakh and Russian languages, there are large numbers of books in English, French, German and Chinese. Also, the library carries encyclopedias and reference books, with additional resources for Cambridge, Oxford and collections of tests. The school sports unit has two gyms. The modern sport’s complex includes a soccer field, basketball court, volleyball court, tennis court and a children’s recreational area. To ensure safety, all sports venues surfaces have a special safety coating.
During meal times, there is a dining room which can seat up to 360 students at a time.
Non-local students are housed in a 120-bed residential unit, and 4 students are accommodated in each ensuite room. The hostel is staffed, and facilities include a library for self-study, a room for meetings with parents, a laundry room, doctor’s office and infirmary.
